Color Switch Surges to 150 Million DownloadsPublished on Tue, Apr 4, 2017 1:15 PM
Fortafy Games announced today that Color Switch has reached the 150 million downloads mark. An impressive feat for any mobile game, made even more impressive by the fact that the game was published by and independent developer based in Dubai and Sydney.
Zeb Jaffer, the founder of Fortafy, commented that the game has been downloaded more than 20 million times in the last three months alone. This surge in downloads attests to the incredibly viral nature of Color Switch and the fact the game has been updated over 65 times in the last year and a half. Color switch now boasts over 30 different game modes and over 2500 unique levels.
The simple game-play of Color Switch could also be a factor in the games popularity. You simply tap the screen to move your colored ball up the screen, being careful to only advance when the colors match. Many mobile gamers want games they can pick up quickly, such as waiting in an airport, and get instant satisfaction. Color Switch fits the bill perfectly.
Interestingly, the first version of the game was made in just one week using BuildBox, a simple drag and drop game builder. Fortafy has decided to open up a new mobile publishing business and is actively working on new titles to add to their line up.
One of the original developers, David Reichelt was quoted saying “It’s been a crazy year for sure. I had big ideas when I conjured up Color Switch back in June of 2015 but did not anticipate this kind of reception. Going forward, I’m excited to expand the Color Switch universe and turn Color Switch into one of the biggest brands in gaming.”
While it's rare that games published by small independent developers achieve the success that Color Switch has, it proves that it's still possible for the "small guys" to succeed in a hyper-competitive marketplace.
